DEFIANCE Wrestle-plex
Sunday, July 14th, 12:30pm
The Wrestle-plex is empty for today, but seated among the many empty seats somewhere close to the front row sits Christie Zane. Wearing a yellow sun dress with a white overcoat, Christie greets the camera.
Christie Zane:
Hello, DEFIANCE Faithful, and welcome to a special sit-down interview! My guest for this piece has plenty of history on the roster. A BRAZEN graduate in 2020. A former two-time Unified Tag Team Champion and former Favoured Saints Champion. A man looking to find his way in the ever-changing landscape of DEFIANCE. Please welcome Mil Vueltas.
Wearing a gold and purple (go, Saints!) variant of his luchador mask, his signature “JUST LOOK UP!” t-shirt and gray jeans, Mil is seated just two three spots over from Christie.
Mil Vueltas:
Hola, Christie.
Christie Zane:
Mil, thank you for taking the time to sit down with us about recent dealings. I also want to offer my sympathies. You put up a great fight against Tyler Fuse and while the results didn't go in your favor that evening, you still showed out as you always do.
Mil's response?
A sigh.
Mil Vueltas:
Ehh… historia de mi carrera, Christie. but... while I'm here... May I address Tyler, por favor?
She nods as he faces the camera.
Mil Vueltas:
Tyler… record books say you won… but thinking about when you singled me out... YOU failed. YOU said you were going to take out the dead weight of DEFIANCE… but I’m still here. And I HAD YOU BEAT! And if you give whoever is champion the chance to stand like you did me,Tyler… you’re going to FAIL when you cash in your shot.
He turns around in his seat back to face Christie.
Mil Vueltas:
I’ve been sitting on that for a few days and needed to get that out. Se lo agradezco.
Christie nods.
Christie Zane:
We also wanted to touch base on some of your recent history with DEFIANCE. You’ve been through a lot with the likes of Titanes Familia. You haven’t really opened up too much about that.
It takes Mil a moment for him to be able to find the words.
Mil Vueltas:
It... it still hurts, Christie. Even when going on my own... I always stayed in touch off-camera. Uriel... Princesa... Danny... we were tight. But Uriel... I HATE what he and Titaness have become. I hate that I don't have Danny any more. He just stopped talking to everyone after Uriel attacked him...
Shaking his head in disgust.
Mil Vueltas:
I... sorry. It's tough going from that to being alone. Thomas Keeling... he's not here anymore after he got hurt.
Christie Zane:
How is his recovery? Can you tell us about how your promoter, Thomas Keeling, has been doing since that attack?
Somberly, Mil continues.
Mil Vueltas:
I, uh… it’s tough not having him on road with me anymore. I… he’s been doing better after being attacked by Uriel, but I told him a month ago that our partnership is done. I can’t take chance again of him getting hurt by someone… especially someone who cared about us like our own father.
Christie Zane:
I’m really sorry to hear that, Mil.
Mil Vueltas:
Me, too... but I not allow anyone I care about to be target for someone else. So from now on... this journey is mine.
Christie Zane:
That's admirable. But hey… as the expression goes, any landing you can walk away from is still here. You’ve been through a lot in this last calendar and you've had a lot of big opportunities in this last year with the likes of Malak Garland, Oscar Burns, Uriel Cortez and now Tyler Fuse on PPV…Unfortunately, those results have not been in your favor, but like you said, you’re still here. You’re still standing and holding your head up high.
Mil Vueltas:
Yeah…
He stops for a moment.
Christie Zane:
And as someone who is still popular with the Faithful for your amazing aerial prowess and heart, how…
Mil Vueltas:
Estoy tan cansada de esto.
Christie stops.
Christie Zane:
Pardon?
Mil Vueltas:
I’m tired of this, Christie… having to, as you say… hold my head up high. I need to get something else off my chest.
Christie Zane:
Please. This is your time.
Mil balls up a fist in his seat.
Mil Vueltas:
I’m SICK. Those names you mentioned… Malak, our FIST… Oscar… Uriel… Tyler… do you want to know two things they have in common?
Christie Zane:
What would that be?
Mil Vueltas:
Since I started this road to being singles wrestler again… they all beat me. Everyone talks about them winning… Everyone talks about them going on to bigger and better things. No one talks about me in those losses… but all those cabrons I named off… EVERY one of them… they CHEATED to beat ME.
Christie Zane tries to speak, but the emotional luchador continues.
Mil Vueltas:
Malak Garland SPIT on my heritage and only won after hitting me with a loaded mask... THE CHAMPION HAD TO CHEAT TO BEAT ME. Oscar Burns… needed… BUTCHER… to beat me. TWICE! Uriel Cortez? My former hermano… he attacked my manager. Tyler Fuse attacked my knee all match and I STILL had him pinned when Brian Slater was down. I… I should have beaten ALL of them.
Christie Zane:
You know… that is right. Everything you said was true. And I understand your frustration, I do. I am sorry for all that’s happened to…
Mil Vueltas:
Con todo respeto, no necesito disculpas.
Christie Zane:
Excuse me?
He tugs at the microphone taped to his shirt for this interview.
Mil Vueltas:
Tired of “head held high.” Tired of “looking up” when I can’t look forward…
The Man of a Thousand Flips rips off his microphone and lets it fall to the ground.
Mil Vueltas:
I need to go.
Mil starts to leave…
But blocking his path is one of the last people he expects to see.
SONNY SILVER.
Sonny Silver:
Mil.
Mil angrily balls up a fist at the manager associated with Oscar Burns.
Mil Vueltas:
No tengo nada que decirte, gilipollas. Kiss my ass.
Sonny holds a hand up.
Sonny Silver:
I’m not here to say shit to you.
He points over to the end of the row behind him.
Sonny Silver:
He is.
Mil looks over… and tilts his head.
His former Familia stablemate…
DAN LEO JAMES.
Dan offers up a polite, friendly wave while Mil looks at Sonny, then up at Danny.
DLJ:
Hey, Mil… I know it's been a while and I have no right to ask you this... but can we talk?
Mil looks behind him at Christie, whose eyes go wide with this development. Sonny points over to her.
Sonny Silver:
You’re done. These two need to have a private conversation.
Christie takes the not-very-subtle-at-all hint and sits up before taking her leave. Mil looks up at Danny and then walks off with his one-time former stablemate with Sonny as the scene goes black.
