Posted by Lance Warner on 1 Jan 2022

New Year's Eve and New Year's Day held special shows at rhe Earl K. Long Gymnasium in Lafayette, Louisiana! The winners of the first ever two-night NEW YEAR, WHO DIS? Trios Tournament took place! And the winning team would each earn title shots at the singles titles in BRAZEN! Also, the BRAZEN Championship, Onslaught Title, Tag Titles AND the BRAZEN Star Cup was on the line... twice! Also see who took home the DEFys BRAZEN Star of the Year! All this and more on perhaps one of the busiest Double Shots yet!

Night One opened up with a special presentation: The BRAZEN Star of the Year, as voted by the likes of you, the fans...

KILLJOY!

The Beast of LET ran roughshod over the division as not only the first-ever two-time BRAZEN Champion, but also held it for exactly 300 days! Archer Silver, High Flyer IV and Kazuhiro Troy touted the big man's achievements before promising to win the New Year, Who Dis? Trios Tournament and put LET back on the map! Leyenda de Ocho, Jack Halcyon and "Big Aug" August Lazar came out to retort. Ocho told them it was time for a new crop of talent to get to the top while Jack Halcyon told them LET were the past and those three were the future. BRAZEN's Largest Athlete, Big Aug, pointed at his new "Big Aug = Big Trouble" shirt and told them to do the math. BRAZEN Matchmaker Capital Punishment told them no fighting or they'd both forfeit their spots... but with so much riding on the line, it was going to be a big chance for any of the eight teams to make it to the top!

News and Notes:

--The story of the Double Shot: Leyenda de Ocho, Jack Halcyon and August Lazar win the first-ever NEW YEAR WHO DIS? tournament! The winners? They each receive a title shot of their choosing! Halcyon pinned Killjoy to win the tournament and in return, was granted a future BRAZEN Championship match. Leyenda de Ocho was granted a future match for the BRAZEN Star Cup while BRAZEN's tallest man August Lazar now goes after the Onslaught Title! The caveat... the owners of each shot get to cash in AT THEIR CHOOSING!

--Kazuhiro Troy did not disappoint! From the jump, he had the number of Batts through most the main event, working him over with kicks and attacks on the neck through the bout, but Batts gutted it out and found a way to fight back! Towards the end, Batts pinned Troy with the Batter Up diving senton! After the match, Halcyon was confronted by Jack Halcyon! The man called "One Shot" used his title shot ahead of time and called out Batts for a title shot at CLASH on February 6th!

--The BRAZEN Star Title reign of Declan Alexander continued in an open challenge answered by none other than DEFIANCE's Butcher Victorious! Declan won two falls to one after Butcher caught him early with A Winner Is Me, but Declan scored later with a roll-up as well as a Play of the Game! A special exhibition was done and accepted by Cristiano Caballero on Night Two, who was beat by Declan in 10 minutes, two falls to zero! Declan's work is never done, however, as Leyenda de Ocho now holds a shot at the trophy! No word as of now when Ocho plans to cash in yet, but he can afford to wait.

--Michael Van Warren defeated Luke Ali’i to retain the Onslaught Title against his toughest challenge yet! Luke suplexes Van Warren from pillar to post showing off recent training with Ryan Batts, but MVW gutted it out and retained his champion with a discus lariat, Zodiac Spear and finally the Limit Breaker to retain... but his work is far from done. "The Big Bad" BRAGG made no secret he is the only former champ to have lost the title without being pinned and he wanta the gold back! BRAGG and Michael Van Warren lock up at the next Double Shot... but "Big Aug" August Lazar now also has a BRAZEN Onslaught Title shot! Not one, but TWO massive shadows looming over the champ.

--BRAZEN Tag Team Champions The NEW Rain City Ronin retain again over the upstart challenge of OnlyFlips, but now have a few teams coming their way. The Barrio Boys have wanted a shot, along with The House, as well as others in the wings!

Thanks for checking out our latest BRAZEN recap and we hope you have a great 2022!
