Warner vs. Dentari
Posted by Lance Warner on 10 Oct 2012
Lance Warner recently paid a visit to Defiance’s Alceo Dentari to get his thoughts and feelings on being part of the final four for the Masters Of Wrestling Grand Champion league. The interview didn’t quite go as he was hoping though.
Editors Note: This piece is more of an editorial as opposed to a news piece, as I feel it’s important for me to convey just how I felt the meeting with Dentari went.
A slightly shaken up Lance Warner here for Defiancewrestling.com, welcoming you to another exclusive.
I was recently invited to Brooklyn, New York to speak with one of the two final Evolution participants still in the tournament, Alceo Dentari. Yes, that’s right, Invited. Alceo, or rather one of his people, contacted me directly to organise an interview for .com, and said Dentari had some things he needed to get off his chest.
Being the dedicated reporter that I am I jumped on the red-eye and flew out to NYC. Once there I was met at the gate by an Itialian looking gentleman with a sign that read warner. He took my bag and led to a waiting black lincoln town car. We sat in silence until we reached our destination.
Alceo Dentari’s home.
I was expecting your usual Brooklyn home. Stoop out front, garage under the house, surprisingly spacious inside. No, nothing like that. While he might have had a garage, it wasn’t below it house, no, it was below the front yard. That in and of itself was surrounded by a high iron fence and a keypad locked gate controlled access to that.
I was shown out of the car and led up the steps to Dentari’s front door, which I don’t recall the color of, I just remember thinking they didn’t make men tall enough to reach the top of it. Inside wasn’t quite what I was expecting.
I didn’t have time to look around as I was led up a beautifully crafted marble staircase and sat outside another big, heavy door. I assumed I had to wait, I didn’t know because nobody had said a word to me since I’d arrived.
I was kept waiting for about fifteen minutes before the door opened and I was allowed to enter. Immediately I felt more uncomfortable than I had done in my entire life. The large man from the Playoffs opened the door and showed me in to a dimly lit office. Dentari sat behind a huge desk, although that could have all been perspective, and the other man from the playoffs was fiddling around with a cabinet.
The interview started off as I’d expect, Alceo tried to avoid my questions over what had transpired during the playoffs and ignored me when I asked about the fan footage that had been making its rounds after the event.
We then went on to discuss Alceo’s only guaranteed opponent for the coming show, Heidi Christenson. Alceo had some strong words to say about Miss Christenson, but I couldn’t fault his manners as he kept himself polite and answered my questions civilly.
It was when we got to Christian Light and Claira St. Sure that things really seemed to take a nosedive.
Dentari seemed to be so confident of his chances against Heidi that whenever I brought up the subject of him not appearing in the final, his associates/henchmen were ready to restrain me. Fortunately that wasn’t necessary until an unfortunate slip of the tongue on my part led to me being ejected from his entire estate.
I wasn’t shocked to discover once I’d been thrown outside that the car that had brought me to Dentari’s home had vanished and everyone stationed outside dissappeared indoors, leaving me, a man who had no idea where he was, to find a cab and get a ride back to the airport.
Throughout the interview I felt very uncomfortable. Dentari has a way of making you feel relaxed yet uneasy at the same time with just his facial expressions. He might be smiling, but those eyes of his never seem to stop staring a hole through you.
And the two burly gentlemen that flanked me throughout the interview did nothing to settle my nerves.
I had hoped to asked Dentari several more questions, including who the two other gentlemen in the room were and what he hoped to do after the tournament is over. However, those questions will have to wait for another day.
If I ever get the chance again.
