Title: Business Plan
Featuring: Edward White
Date: 11/24/12
Location: The White Manor
[The Michael Nyman Band played in the background. Not on record, cassette or an mp3 through a state of the art entertainment system. The band, complete with band leader Michael Nyman played underneath the shade of trees and a custom built stage.]
[People danced, celebrated, cheered and drank until their cheeks were flush. The champagne flowed into the flutes of the guests as they socialized by portable heating units next to stark white tables.]
[As the party in the park reached the peak of excitement, one person stood back and watched on much more restrained. Edward White was having fun but he wasn't letting loose. While his guests drank glass after glass, bottle after bottle, Edward had barely touched his champagne. Even his associates had polished off at least a glass of the champagne in a toast, some moving on to other drinks courtesy of the open bar.]
[Edward White sat along side Nicky Corrozzo, who had a large glass of red wine grasped in his hand.]
Nicky Corrozzo:
"I think it's great that Hector is coming back."
[There was no reply, White stared forward, watching the people dance.]
Nicky Corrozzo:
"It was quite the treat to see him today. Wheelchair or not, he looks strong. I've seen men take far less punishment and not even make it to where he's at.
"And I've had to make the calls before. Not a matter of life or death but more along the lines of do we continue to finance them or..."
Edward White:
"Yes. I know. It's why I keep you around Nicky. You know the burdens that I have to face."
Nicky Corrozzo:
"Then you know, this was in no way your fault."
Edward White:
"I know."
Nicky Corrozzo:
"Then drink up. This is a time to celebrate."
[Edward smiles and takes a sip. He places it back down and admires the bubbles.]
Edward White:
"You know Nicky, if I was another man, a man who was more complacent, more accepting of the world, someone who took things at face value, I might agree with you."
Nicky Corrozzo:
"... Go on."
Edward White:
"I'm not. I'm not Jimmy Kort who lives by a code of ignorance and serendipity. A man who forgets more than he learns. I know that face value is merely up to interpretation. Some people see the silver lining of a storm but me, I see a storm coming."
Nicky Corrozzo:
"You're that worried about Andrews, Scott and Long?"
[He shakes his head no and laughs a little bit.]
Edward White:
"Is my name Eric Dane? Why should I care about a tiff between quarreling lovers?
"Can I make money on it? No, I can't.
"Do I want to make money off of it?
"No, I have a much more sound business plan than some bogus Rothschild backing plan. My plan, it involves you. It involves Miss Jane Katze. It involves Mr. Thomas Hunter. And when Hector Perez is back on his feet, he will also be involved."
[Nicky approves of this.]
Nicky Corrozzo:
"I assume the FIST Championship is the start?"
Edward White:
"Nicky. I'm a World Heavyweight Champion caliber competitor. I do not care about a title that Jimmy Kort claims to have ownership over. I do not want a belt that Aleco Dentari wants in some sort of revenge plot against those who wronged him. I don't want a strap that Heidi will hail as the title that was stripped from her.
"Do you know what I want?
"I want to take the belt just to spite them.
"I want to use it as a coaster for my cognac.
"To use as a shovel to plant flowers.
"To use a inefficient toboggan as I sled down a pile of money.
"I want to take the gold, re-smelt it into currency of a foreign land, use that currency and buy stock in something actually valuable."
"And then cash out of that stock right before it bottoms out, then invest that money into a start up that fails just so I can say the FIST financed the next pets.com."
[White pauses.]
Edward White:
"I want that championship just so no one else can have it."
[He cackles. So does Nicky.]
Edward White:
"But it's not a part of the plan."
Nicky Corrozzo:
"Then what is it?"
[Right as Nicky finishes his sentence, the band hits the last note of their performance. Edward White stands up applauding, before grabbing his flute of champagne.]
Edward White:
"I'll tell you, after I'm done talking to Mr. Nyman."
