Title: Bigger than me
Featuring: Claira St. Sure

Diane Parker did her job.
She found all the footage of Dan Ryan she could.
She watched him choke in the first round of Ultratitle, rewound, and watched it a few more times.
And then, her mind made up, she went to Claira St. Sure.
“Give it up, Claira, we’re leaving wrestling forever and never going back.”
Claira St. Sure was doing her job. Training to wrestle. Training in the ring. Sparring, working on her submission holds, running windsprints against the ropes for endurance and to toughen up her back. Burpees, bicycles, and throwing the 200 lb dummies around in suplexes.
“What?!”
She stopped what she was doing (windsprints).
“I had a change of heart. Dan Ryan showed me the way. It’s futile for us to even try to make sure you retain the FIST against him.”
“Why on earth give up?” Claira leaned against the top rope.
“Did you know…” Diane’s voice took on a hushed tone, anticipating and dreading the awful truth.
“Know what?”
“That Dan Ryan…”
“Dan Ryan what.” Claira was irritated now.
“Claira, you don’t seem to understand how grave and dire this is. Dan Ryan is bigger than you.”.
Claira stared at her, her eyebrows lowered.
“And… he’s also held more titles than you.”
Claira blinked, once.
“But most importantly, he’s bigger than you.”
Claira smirked, beginning to catch on.
“Ya, I think I hear him mention winning lots of titles too.”
“Also, he’s bigger than you.”
=-=-=-=-=
[Jump-cut, although the scene hasn’t changed. Claira St. Sure and Diane Parker are still in the same ring Claira was training in, both leaning on the top rope looking down.]
Diane:
Dan Ryan, I don’t know where you’re getting the idea that Claira’s underestimating you. I seriously don’t. I don’t get why you think I’m underestimating you, either. I mean – alright. It’s like, there’s a difference between underestimating someone, and trying to get them not to underestimate you. And really Dan, that’s what’s been going on here since you got started.
Claira wasn’t noisy enough for you.
Claira was too introspective for you.
You don’t need to hear about how Claira St. Sure prepares to wrestle.
You know what, if that works for you, great. And clearly it does, because you’re 114% heavier than her, you’re bigger than everyone, and you’ve got a lot of mobility for a guy your size, and strategizing just isn’t a big part of your game because you only need one strategy. You just, what, keep beating on people until they’re a ‘red smear on the canvas’, right?
Great. Fine.
[Diane nods, clearly indicating that it’s fine. Whatever it was. Claira also nods.]
Diane:
Claira’s too quiet, Claira’s whatever, Claira doesn’t do business exactly like the Egobuster does it, so not only is she not doing it right, but she’s a failure, beneath your contempt, betrayed the fans, just because she doesn’t start talking the second the card gets announced.
Then I try to point out that maybe you’re overlooking her a little bit, maybe you’re getting ahead of yourself, you know, just a little, and…
‘Argle blargle rargle fargle I weigh 179% more than Claira does and therefore mathematics guarantees that I’ll win.’
[Diane shrugs.]
Claira:
I tell you though Dan. I be happy to let what I done in Defiance speak for itself, but all it seems anyone want to do is get stuck on how I lose to Christian Light once, you beat him once, they think you gonna beat me. Or maybe is just you and Angus Skaaland think that.
Diane:
Nobody wants to take that win away from you, Dan, don’t get me wrong. I mean, hey, you’re the first person in Defiance to pin Christian Light in standard competition! A round of applause!
[Both girls clap.]
[Claira does it slow and sarcastic.]
[Diane flutters the tips of her hands together fast.]
Diane:
It’s just ah… what was Christian Light doing while he was building up this major major win streak that you ended? Grand Champion’s League, right?
Where were you, Dane?
Oh, that’s right.
You couldn’t handle it.
While Christian and Claira were laying absolute waste to all comers in Heritage League, you were over in Evolution League losing to Troy Matthews, Chris Cannon, and Yoshikazu YAZ. All multi-time World Champions and living legends and… oh wait, no they weren’t.
They were just wrestlers, and as far as prestige within Defiance goes, they were WAY below any of the people who Claira was, well, beating up and submitting.
One win over Christian Light and we’re supposed to forget all that?
Claira:
See Dan, I know Christian Light. I lose to him once. That second time, he beat Heidi Christenson, not me. I look at the Christian Light who dominated in Heritage League, who won the ladder match, who beat Bronson Box in the playoffs, and the Christian Light who lose to you, and um.
Diane: [sing-song]
One of these things is not like the other one~!
Claira:
Right.
Diane:
Also, you had Kai Scott’s help while you were doing that. You know. Because, since you keep bringing him up, and saying how he’s child’s play compared to you, and you know, someone who’s so good at being a mastermind should’ve recognized THAT FEEL of being a pawn in a chess game beyond their understanding.
But maybe you’re too egotistical to care.
Or maybe you’re convinced that since you’re heavier than Claira by 334% that you’re big enough to get away with sitting on the chessboard.
[Diane shrugs.]
Claira:
But in seriousness Dan. I don’t look past anything you done. Twenty time World Champion. I do respect that.
But you had 15 years to do that.
I’ve had 3 and a half so far. And I started two weight classes below you – had to go through women’s wrestling and cruiserweight wrestling.
But I got my first title.
And I got it in Defiance. I got it in the best wrestling promotion on the face of the earth right now. And all twenny of your World Titles, you can’t say that ‘bout any of them.
I’m no gonna look straight ahead at the best I ever seen. But I am gonna look straight ahead at you, Ego Buster Dan Ryan.
