Title: HER STORY - Part 2
Featuring: Jessica Reeves
Date: January 2020
Location: New Orleans
January 2020.
Jessica:
Bags… check... cell phone… check.
Scene fades into just outside an apartment complex on a cool wintery evening, the sun has just recently set, letting the first signs of darkness settle in for the day. Jessica ‘Reaper’ Reeves standing over the open trunk of her black Dodge Charger, wrestling with the contents of the vehicle the woman seems frazzled and frustrated.
Jessica:
Wait…
Frustration grows as Jessica lifts and moves bags from side to side in hopes of locating something specific in the trunk.
Jessica:
Wait.. wait where is my laptop.. FUCKING dammit!
With a growling fit of anger Jessica slams the trunk closed, literally spitting onto the back window of her car. Her hands are shaking as she stares into the windowed backseat, looking down, she lets out an exhausted sigh.
Voice:[off camera]
Just like your Father… the man couldn’t help but cuss at anything and everything that upset him.
Jessica pauses at the voice - her face peers up as she stares over the top hood of her car - the voice is behind her and she turns to face it.
Jessica:
So… I reject Courtney’s calls and repeated visits and they still send more people to convince me to come back. How many times do I have to tell you - ALL of YOU - it’s not happening.
Voice:
You assume I am with someone - who would that be Jessica?
The voice is soft spoken, male - perhaps middle aged - but none the less unrecognizable. Jessica’s reaction is nonchalant as she crosses her arms. The cool wind cascades through her hair as she leans backwards against the now closed trunk of the Charger.
Jessica:
My mistake… but it’s obvious you seem to know me and my Father. So are you a fan? Cause, I don’t do autographs - in fact if you even KNOW who my father is you are a hell of a follower - which creeps me out so can you do me a favor and let me cuss out my car in peace please?
Her stance becomes defensive as she unfolds her arms and starts to reach in her jacket pocket for the keys.
Voice:
Jessica, you have nothing to fear from us. I am here simply as a friend, you requested that we meet so we are meeting.
Jessica:
I… I requested that we meet? When was this?
Jessica’s voice was in disbelief as she was pointing at herself, while looking at the hidden person who just so happened to be out of camera shot.
Voice:
Yes you did. It took I believe… three weeks for headquarters to receive your message. Sorry for the delay, we would have certainly liked to meet sooner… we don’t get many that so openly talk about them like you did.
Jessica:
My god…. Am I drunk or are you going to talk in mystery fucking circles all day? Tell ME your name? What message - who….
There is something that triggers in Jessica’s mind and as the camera shifts, so do the shadows of the person off camera, they approach closer as Jessica turns back around and faces the back window of her car once again.
Voice:
You spoke with…. I believe the username was ‘LightOfNight99x’. You’ll have to forgive our members and followers, they aren’t the most creative with their handles.
A pause in conversation allows Jessica to turn back around and face the off screen man. Showing signs of interest in learning more about what this man’s purpose is to bother her this evening, Jessica waits patiently for him to continue.
Voice:
Anyways… You asked them to send a message to us and let us know that you had inside information on persons of interest to our organization. Persons that our organization has been seeking for a very long time. So, here I am.
Jessica:
My Father told me you all were fakes. Sell outs… and didn’t exist anymore. Why should I believe you are who you say you are?
The man clears his throat.
Voice:
Jessica.. You are not a stupid person, please don’t waste my time with stupid questions. You sought The Guardians, I am here.
Jessica:
Okay… so you are here. Great news! That doesn’t give me back three years of my fucking life when they brainwashed me to be their puppet!
Voice:
I’d appreciate it if you would stop cursing, Jessica. Your father’s mouth doesn’t look proper on your pretty face.
Jessica:
Yeah well my leg looks proper enough to kick you in the damn chest and send you packing, get out of my way… I’m tired of this garbage. I’m leaving here FOR GOOD!
The camera moves along with Jessica as she walks from her car, folding her arms closely against her chest she attempts to ignore the man who was just conversing with. However, the man follows her closely unrelenting in his pursuit to continue their dialogue.
Voice:
You mentioned in that message to us that you are aware of plans in motion from The Kabal. Is that an accurate statement, Jessica?
Jessica: [flustered]
Not listening to you…
Jessica keeps walking, attempting to reach her apartment complex, the camera follows closely but the hidden voice remains off screen.
Voice:
We know the acts of terror The Kabal have caused across organizations in the States for years, proof of their direct malice is always visible AFTER the fact. We have never been able to meet them head on. Jessica - you are important to us because you may be our way in - we want to help. You want revenge for what they did to you and what they did to your Father right?
Jessica: [scoffing]
What ‘they’ did to my Father? No one does anything to Jason Reeves. The man does enough to himself.
Voice:
Alright, well then what about revenge for yourself? You said three years of your life was ruined by them? By the looks of your attitude and demeanor it seems they may have had more of an impact then just three years.
Stopping in place, Jessica turns to face the camera once more and addresses his question.
Jessica:
STOP TALKING SO LOUD! They could be watching me!
Silence overtakes the camera as she stares at the man.
Voice:
Jessica - do you think I would show up if they were watching you right now? Perhaps you’d like to invite me in, if you are that afraid of someone eavesdropping on us.
The debate is obvious in Jessica’s mind as her face contorts slowly, contemplating the request she grips the keys in her hands before replying.
Jessica:
I left my laptop in my apartment upstairs. You can come with me, but after that i’m leaving. This city has seen the last of me.
Voice:
Lead the way, Reaper.
Jessica:[disgruntled]
Don’t call me that. And my apartment is a mess.
Turning away from the camera she motions over her shoulder for the mystery man to follow, as the camera pans out to an overhead shot, a glimpse of the man is shown he appears to be in all white. However, before the camera can catch any other important details the pair disappear inside.
Fade.
