An event as big as the DEF*MAX Grand Prix needs hype. And who better to hype an event than the Ego Buster?
[The video crackles to life with Dan Ryan still leaning forward after turning the camera on. He settles in and smirks.]
Been awhile since I've done one of these.
[Smirk.]
Hope I remember how to do it.
Of course I do.
Events like these, anybody knows, are nothing new to me. There has never been a more proven big moment performer in our business than I am, and that's undisputed fact.
For well over a decade, I have been the most consistent big time professional we've had. A few years ago, I came to DEFIANCE for the first time. I fought my way through everything put in front of me, spent blood, sweat and tears to win the respect of my peers and the DEFIANT faithful.
I've endured the tired efforts of those with delusions of grandeur trying to take me down. Even today, I have to endure Bronson Box and Eugene Dewey promoting the idea that they are the Adam and Eve of DEFIANCE, that they are the first, and therefore the only ones who matter. I'll let you decide which is Adam and which is Eve.
I've negotiated the political waters of this company and put myself in position to be the champion, the centerpoint, the main event, what I've ALWAYS been throughout the years.
I've made the people who tried to upset my plans pay dearly, whether it was Bronson Box, his plaything Virginia Quell, Kai Scott's little protege' Claira St. Sure... or Team HOSS.
Eugene Dewey now sits on top and casually dismisses my claim to the title, as if with mere words he can defeat a man like me. I cannot be defeated, because I simply will not go. I'm like a one man march on DEFIANCE.
There is no explicitly given shot at the championship inherent in winning the Grand Prix, but I think Miss Evans would be hard pressed to come up with a reason for keeping me away if I did so.
Therefore, it is with great pleasure that I start my run with one Curtis Penn.
I know his game. I know it all too well. I damn near invented it. I was using my mind and vast psychological acumen to manipulate scenarios to my advantage before he was even a gleam in the eye of the man who raped his mother.
He thinks this is a challenge for him, a chance to prove himself. I think it's a chance for me to make a statement. For those of us who wish to stand on the mountain, there is always the climb to be made. I don't mind putting in the work. I never have had a problem with making the sacrifice when it needs to be made.
Congratulations, Curtis.
You're the sacrifice.
