Ambitious Motives
Lighting flashes through the windows of a dark room. Lighting up the entire wall behind a sofa, Chance Von Crank is sitting on. He wonders back through all he has been through with both hands on his face. The faint orange circle of a lit cigar in the corner confirms Chance is not alone in the small living room. The room is lit up again and the chrome lenses of Chance’s sunglasses spring to life from the brief bright light.
cVc: Ambition. When I was coming up the ranks all over the south in the indies even then I knew I had “it”. Even Still, I sit here bitter and confused and disoriented from reality. The last year has been the most of hectic of my entire career. I nearly tasted a Death Row World title and then was led away for more money. While TRUE’s owner was on all fours taking it sack deep from Lee Best, I left America. You’re no fWo that is for sure. Not to get lost in the past because this is my future.
The lightning hits again and Chance looks over at the man he has been speaking to this entire time. Chance takes off his shades and walks over the window. Looking out…
cVc: I am a very bitter man. I see nothing around me but assholes with no talent. I look at the top of the mountain and see Jeff Andrews… What can I say about this asshole that hasn’t already been said about Jerry Sandusky? I will linger and beat every up and comer cocksucker you motherfuckers can come up with. Jones just does not have “it”.
Chance walks over to the man lifting his face up toward him into a contorted mess. His face begins to turn red from the pressure of being lifted by Chance.
cVc: Busta Capps unfortunately is no longer with us. He thought it was a brilliant idea to paint his fucking ceiling with brain matter. I need a manager slash agent to do his job. Nod if you understand.
The man nods at him as Chance continues to hold his head.
cVc: I am not fucking around here or playing what so ever. This is my entire fucking life and I want you to understand that before you accept this job. I can make all of your debts disappear with a proper team behind me. Do you understand money, Faggot? This job is no joke, I get four hours asleep a night and I am constantly on the road. Three hundred and sixty five days a year I do this. I hype me, motherfucker.
Chance releases his hold on him and backs away.
cVc: You want this job you get all that comes with it. Now get up and don’t be a bitch because I have no patience for that shit. Yeah I physically assaulted you, your next move determines if you pass this test or not. This way of life is not for the weak of heart and time will tell if you have what it takes. Considering the last man in this position may or may not have been talked into committing suicide over the phone by Trailer Park Prodigy, himself. The hatred in my heart burns as epic fury to push me on to glory. Right now it’s a climb that is before us all down here at the bottom of the mountain. I got a PHD in being legit, and the rest of these vile son of a bitches will be second billing once I get to where I am going.
Chance walks back over to the sofa and sits down. He picks up a remote and switches on a flat screen hanging on the wall. He mutes it and locates the last Dragon Jones match to watch.
cVc: No sound on a wrestling match? This is how I watch them because I ignore everything that even resembles a distraction. The fever pitch moment is rarely spoken about in our business. When the crowd is so into what you are doing in the ring that you lose yourself in it. That’s exactly what happened to Adam Faulkner last Defiance TV. He was caught up in my moment with no power in his arsenal to do anything to stop it. That fever pitch moment of the match is when knees begin to weaken if you don’t have “it”. I have seen men convinced of they’re own greatness fall to pieces in that moment. Lose all sense of control and become disoriented in such a familiar environment to them. Jones to this point is the best opponent I have had. I am more committed now than I have ever been. I will not allow my focus to waiver nor wane.
Chance watches on the match as Jones wins. He stands up in front of the tv holding the remote in his right hand. He leans back and lunges it toward the flat screen tv. The remote shatters and a sharp piece is stuck, dead center in the television screen. He snatches it off the wall and takes it to the balcony out back and throws it off. It smashes into pieces as it lands on top of a range rover in the parking lot below. Lightning flashes as Chance stands on the balcony in the pouring rain looking down at his destruction. The flat screen hitting the vehicle caused its alarm to sound. The man walks up behind Chance and presses a button on his key which stops the alarm.
cVc: I will not be denied my moment here. I will not rot at the bottom of these fucking cards and if you do not get me some decent endorsement deals within the week, your fucking fired. I will hire you, Downtown. I just fucked up your car with that tv. Welcome Aboard and I hope you always remember who the fucking boss is.
