The bell affixed to the top of the wooden door frame jangles as Jocelyne waltzes into the bookstore. She’s got a fresh face and a clear mind as she clutches a cardboard drink tray and pair of personalized espressos. Tentative at first, Jocelyne peers around some of the bookshelves until she finds Teresa, sitting on the floor, straightening up a mess of hard covers.

Jocelyne:
Hey girl, brought you some java. Double shot of caramel. Just how you like it.

Jocelyne parades the espressos in her hands before setting them down on a nearby table. She unshoulders her sling bag and gets down to Teresa’s level.

Jocelyne:
Everything okay?

Teresa shuffles some books in her hands before making deliberate eye contact.

Teresa:
Yeah. It’s just been a busy day. I mean, look at this mess.

Teresa can’t help but let her eyes linger to the espressos.

Teresa:
Thanks for bringing me that. You always know the best pick-me-ups.

Jocelyne smiles wide. Even though she’s a little bit younger, she absolutely loves it when Teresa compliments her.

Jocelyne:
Of course. Anything for my bestie.

Teresa and Jocelyne stand and relocate to the table.

Jocelyne:
You sure everything is okay? You seem a bit off.

Teresa pulls the lid off her sleeved espresso and takes a sniff with a dainty sip.

Teresa:
Yeah for sure. Just haven’t been feeling great today, that’s all. Mathias didn’t seem like he was in a good mood when I left him earlier today, but I think that’s in my head.

Jocelyne stares at Teresa with concern as she readies her own espresso.

Jocelyne:
What do you think could be going on? Work stress? I know everyone has to deal with that.

Teresa:
Honestly, I don’t know. Anyways, let’s get going. Don’t want to be late for our dinner reservation. We got lots to catch up on after all.
