Featuring: Teresa Ames
Date: 11/1/2021
Location: Apartment
The door to the apartment swings open and Mathias hangs his head into the hallway to have a look. There’s nothing, so he goes to shut the door but just before he can, a scraggly man pipes up.
Jonathan-Christopher:
Excuse me, kind sir!
Mathias releases the door and notices it’s his neighbor, Jonathan-Christopher right there. Teresa remains in the bedroom but her noisiness forces her to gander from afar.
Mathias:
Jonathan-Christopher! To what do we owe the pleasure of your presence at this time of night?
Mathias vigorously rubs his chin as he watches Jonathan-Christopher pull a locket from his pocket.
Jonathan-Christopher:
You see, this piece of jewelry was lost in the hallway. I went out to get some groceries a few hours ago and I found it at the foot of my door. I was wondering if this belonged to you?
He holds up the locket for Mathias to see. It’s got an engraving with the name Sara on it. Teresa can barely see something shimmer in the hall lights from where she is. Mathias promptly lowers Jonathan-Christopher’s arm while looking around rather peculiarly.
Mathias:
Ummmm, erhm, yeah. I think I know who might’ve dropped that by accident but do you mind keeping it down? My wife is trying to sleep right now.
Vickie:
OH SILLY ME!
A female voice bellows even louder than Jonathan-Christopher’s as Vickie, his wife, comes bounding into view.
Vickie:
Honey, what are you doing in the hall at an hour like this?
Vickie eyes Jonathan-Christopher as he has the locket extended to Mathias’ hands.
Vickie:
Jonathan-Christopher, I told you that could wait until tomorrow, didn’t I? What are you doing bothering our lovely neighbor right now? Mathias, I am so deeply sorry. Jonathan-Christopher just has a mind of his own, you know?
Mathias gives a friendly smile and chuckle.
Mathias:
I understand. It’s all good.
Mathias tries to glance back over his shoulder to catch a glimpse of Teresa but she’s too good at hiding.
Mathias:
Anyways, thanks for returning the locket. I’ll make sure it gets back to its owner. Take care you two.
Vickie pulls Jonathan-Christopher away with a loving embrace as Mathias pockets the locket and goes to close the door.
Jonathan-Christopher:
I love you, Vickie. Don’t we have the best neighbors in the world?
Vickie:
I love you too, my honey bunches of oats. I love our undeniable neighbors too.
