Title: Deus Genu
Featuring: Python
Date: 2/25/13
Location: Four Corners Magazine - Feature Interview
Four Corners Magazine was recently lucky enough to sit down with former WfWA World Champion Python to ask him a few questions about his return to Defiance and his upcoming match with Kai Scott. Here's what he had to say.
4CM:
On behalf of 4CM, thank you so much for doing this. Our readers will be thrilled to get this exclusive interview, especially at such a crucial moment in your career.
Python:
Hey, no problem, guys. Happy to be back and talking about these types of things again. And I dig your magazine, it's exactly the kind of fan-oriented stuff I grew up reading and loving. I wanted nothing more as a fan than to stay informed and get to know my favorite superstars. I'd love to see way more interviews like this with way more people.
4CM:
Yeah, we wish! It's usually impossible for a zine our size to score a one on one with anyone, let alone a big name in a top tier company. This is basically unprecedented for us.
Python:
Well then, I hope I can be the one to start the trend! Haha.
4CM:
Us too! Shall we get started?
Python:
Yep, fire away.
4CM:
Let's get straight to the two biggest questions on everyone's minds. What have you been up to and what really made you decide to come back?
Python:
You know, I'd really love to have a cool answer to that first question and tell you I've been traveling the world, taking up new hobbies, starting a new business... but nope. I wasn't doing any of that. Wasn't even particularly enjoying the peace and privacy of being away from the business and the media. Sure, it was nice to feel physically rested again... before I left wrestling, I couldn't remember a time when I wasn't sore all over. But I spent my entire life building myself to become a wrestler. Not just my body, but my heart and my mind. When I took myself out of that environment and put myself into the one I thought I was "supposed" to live in at some point, I found that I just didn't know how to do anything else. Or want to. It's like releasing a house pet into the wild, or I guess more like vice versa. I didn't belong away from wrestling. I've been aware of that for quite some time now, it just took me a while to admit it to myself.
4CM:
Did anything in particular happen to push you back to the business?
Python:
Nope. Literally just woke up one morning and said "fuck this, I need to go back". Pummelled myself back into shape and here I am.
4CM:
Let's talk Kai Scott for a minute. You have plenty of history with Kai and the Untouchables. How are you looking to approach this match?
Python:
Well, the uneducated opponent would target that bum knee of his. Fortunately, I know better. I can't remember that strategy ever working out favorably for anyone. Not even once. As beat up as it may be, that knee does an incredible job of protecting itself. I'm afraid to even look at it in our match, my heart might give out or I might be crushed by a falling piece of lighting equipment or something. It's borderline supernatural. In fact, a quick google search will reveal to you a completely serious mini-cult who worships Kai Scott's right knee as a legitimate holy deity. I wish I was joking.
4CM:
No way.
Python:
Yep. They gave it a name and everything. The Church of Deus Genu. "Knee God". Fucking fantastic.
4CM:
We'll have to look into that.
Python:
Definitely do.
4CM:
So where's your head at going into this match? Are you sticking to a plan? Playing it by ear?
Python:
Ah, I wouldn't necessarily say that I ever have a "plan". But I always do my homework. Anyone who walks into a match unprepared is already at a huge, unnecessary disadvantage. Unless the other guy did the same thing as well, in which case they're both idiots. The cardinal rule of going into battle with Kai Scott is that you never just prepare to go into battle with Kai Scott. You prepare for his friends, his family, his allies, his business partners, and sometimes even his enemies. Now, Kai is plenty dangerous on his own, and I'll never make the mistake of underestimating him. But he's a general, not a soldier. And you can be damn sure I'll be ready for anything he throws at me.
4CM:
We believe it. Thank you so much again for having this chat with us, and best of luck in your return match at Retaliation!
Python:
Sure thing man, thanks for having me! Let's do this again sometime.
