Title: Shutting You Down
Featuring: Python
Date: 8/1/13
Location: Defiance HQ

[Python stands in front of a standard Defiance promo shoot backdrop. Instead of holding a microphone freely, he confidently grips a worn, heavily masking-taped punk rock style mic stand in front of him as he launches into a fiery speech.]

Python:
Co-main event on Defiance TV. Python versus Heidi at the old OLW arena in Baltimore. If you'd have come up to me in 2008 and told me this would happen in five years, I'd have kicked you in the nuts and called you a liar. And yet, here we are rapidly approaching one of the most anticipated matches in recent history. Some people are calling it a dream match they've been waiting for since they got into wrestling. But it never needed to happen... until now.

[He sweeps some loose jet black hair away from his eyes.]

Python:
So, how did we get here? What's changed between then and now? We were friends once, you know. Maybe not by everyone's definition, but by mine. A friend in this business is someone who has your back. I told you once that I had yours. Not too much later, you showed me you had mine. That's usually enough for me.

[Python releases his grip on the mic stand and shoves his hands casually into the pockets of his jeans.]

Python:
There were a lot of things I respected about you back then, Heidi. Hell, you should know that I owe my career to the things I learned from you in the CAL. I watched you as you shattered a stereotype, grabbed the world by the nuts, and forced it to look you in the eye and pay attention. You proved these things to be possible. You are incredible. But you're not invincible. And you're sure as hell not untouchable, not anymore.

[The young highflyer considers his next words carefully.]

Python:
I know you've been through some shit in recent years. I'm not naive enough to claim that I know enough about it to understand it. In fact, I'm sure there aren't many people who do. But in my book, there's nothing in the world that can justify Heidi Christenson becoming a bully and a coward. Circumstance will always be out of our hands, at least to some extent. But the people we become are shaped on the choices we make in light of it. Those choices are on us. You can piss and moan all you want about how your life is so hard and the world is so unfair, but at the end of the day... it's all on you, bitch. And it's far past time someone held you responsible for your bullshit.

[Python and the mic stand steadily approach the camera as his words begin to burn hotter.]

Python:
I'm done listening to you complain about what you deserve. I'm done watching you scare the security folks who are just trying to do their jobs. I'm done watching you pick on the kids coming up in this business and try to destroy their futures. I get it, Heidi. I do. Life is tough, and you do what you can to make yourself feel strong again. But you know what? You're better than this. I know you and I know you're better than this shell of a fighter you've become. Five years ago, I would have been shaking like a leaf before getting in the ring with you. But your shortcuts and your vices have made you weak. Weak, Heidi. Not a word you're used to hearing in this context, but then again, maybe you're not used to having someone tell you the god's honest truth.

[He jams the stand down onto the floor, takes a step back, and throws his arms open wide.]

Python:
So, understand this. I'm not fresh meat for your new rookie diet. I'm not an undertrained security pest you can swat without breaking a sweat. I haven't been fucking pinned since coming back to Defiance. Do you hear me? This is not an accident. It's not a coincidence. And if you don't remember how to be great again by the time we meet in Baltimore, I will remind you first hand.

[Python grins, his passionate rush slowly giving way to calm confidence.]

Python:
It's perfectly fitting that this match will take place on a stage where you and I are already royalty. We have nothing to prove. We don't need to impress anyone. When we're in the ring this weekend  in front of thousands and thousands of fans who once loved you, I want you to know that I'm there for the sole purpose of shutting you down. Because it's about time someone did.

[With that, he throws a hand toward the camera and we cut to a blackout.]

TALKING SMACK

"Look at the size of this freakin' house. That's right. As Joe the Plumber alluded to, I have a bazillion homes, each at least two hundred square miles in area. This is one such home. Remember that part of the book of Revelation in the Bible when John gave the dimensions of the city in heaven and described it in miles of length, the walls in miles of height and so on? It might as well have been a studio apartment compared to this. My home has mile markers. That's what I'm sayin', here. I'm not FROM Texas. Texas is inside my house. It's that big. Right now, I'm sitting on a couch in one of two-hundred fifty living areas in this one house alone. Just outside the window is my swimming pool, the Gulf of Mexico. I pay thirty Mexicans to lift my dick for me when I pee."
