The Last of Us (17)

“Conor, are you ready to go!?”

The man walked down the stairs. He was fully dressed this time. Like his brother, he wore a white-buttoned shirt, however, they had brown buttons on them. He also wore khakis but they were much darker. And his brown Nike shoes did not stand out like Conor’s neon green ones.

“I’m ready.” Conor said as he appeared by the stairs.

“Okay, cool. We’ll go over things in the car.”

Conor sighed. “The car? That means of transportation is so… is so…”

Conor was trying to find the right words, but his brother cut him off. “It’s the socially acceptable means of getting there, let’s be honest. If we’re going to be granted online access, we need to make sure we’re presentable. And as far as I know, there are no warp tunnels or anything like that in America right now.”

Conor pouted. “No magic flutes? Primitive country, that’s for sure. I thought this place was going to be great agai-”

Conor looked over to his brother and stopped himself. “Sorry, that has no place in this world. I know.”

“Okay,” The man started, “if we’re going to get there in time, we need to go now. Turn off the TV.”

Conor did as he was told and both of them marched to the front doorway. The man opened the door and walked towards his 2004 Chevy Malibu. It was a very dark green color and had seen better days, but as he said, it was the acceptable means of transportation.

Conor locked the front door behind him and both of them entered the car, about to drive off until the man stopped halfway out the driveway.

“What is it, Tyler?” Conor said.

The man, now known as Tyler, rubbed his chin. “I’m not sure.” He said. “But I feel like we’re forgetting something.”
