A sit down interview with the FIST of DEFIANCE

Posted by Lance Warner on 13 Jan 2014

DEF talent relations officer Evan Hurley recently sat down with the man he himself scouted and brought into the DEFIANCE fold, the former DEFIANCE World Champion and current reigning two time FIST of DEFIANCE Bronson Box for an in depth interview about his career, his current issues with Eugene Dewey and Dan Ryan, and his future goals.

Did we forget to mention Bronson nearly crippled Mr. Hurley and effectively ended his in ring career?

Yeah, there's that too.

My name is Evan Hurley, I work for DEFIANCE rolling up and down the road scouting talent for my boss and your favorite wrestler Eric Dane. The first performer I ever brought in front of Eric, the one who netted me this cushy gig was the one and only Bronson Box. I’ve known Bronson for years, I discovered him in a dingy pub on the skuzzy side of London England working as a bouncer. The last few years I’ve watched as Bronson Box has become one of the most prolific performers in wrestling today. I recently got the chance to sit down and interview the man some have called the “cornerstone” of the DEFIANCE roster.

Here’s what he had to say.

EH:
Boxer, good to see you.

Box:
Is it? Nice cane ye’ got there lad.

EH:
No grudges here, man. It’s wrestling, it happened. We’re not buds. You did what you had to do to get to the next level. Getting noticed is next to impossible in this business when you’re not connected to one of the big boys like Dane.

Box:
So very true.

EH:
Some would say you’re becoming one of those “big boys”, a real name in this business.

Box:
That’s always been the plan, boy’o.

EH:
To be the greatest wrestler on earth.

Box:
To become to greatest attraction the business has ever seen, there’s a difference.

EH:
You’ve made that distinction before, care to enlighten us to the difference between the two?

Box:
There’s thousands of great wrestlers. Thousands of men and women who can hook and grind and grapple better than thousands of others. But there’s only a handful of truly great performers in this industry. Do you know the difference between the nameless thousands and those choice few, Evan?

EH:
Go on.

Box:
Anybody can wrestle a great match, but great matches are only part of the puzzle.

EH:
Puzzle?

Box:
Take you for instance. You’ve wrestled Michael Lennox for the NWA World title. You’ve wrestled all over the world from Japan to Mexico and back again. You’ve been in the ring with a whole host of the giants of this business and put on some incredible performances… but you never could make that IMPACT… could you? You’re one of those nameless thousands where as I’m developing a career to rival any of those handful of GIANTS.

EH:
So terrify everyone and destroy everything until they have no choice but to remember you forever?

Box:
… *grin*

In so many words, yes. I knew early on I would never be as great a pure wrestler as even some of the men I encountered working in Europe. So a few years before I was picked up by DEFIANCE I started developing… others skills.

EH:
Such as?

Box:
The majority of my career on the independents was spent not saying a word. Pure grappling. It got me bloody nowhere. I was working just one side of the coin. The sport. I needed to work on the art. I developed my persona, I refined my in ring game, I tapped into a wellspring of ruthlessness that surprised even me. It was like slipping into a well worn pair of shoes. What happened then over the following months and years was the genesis of Bronson Box. I realized my path to greatness was paved with blood and bone. With the crushed dreams and hopes of those that DARED step in the ring with me.

EH:
What about those that chose to stand beside you?

Box:
Are we back on you and your poor little back, Evan?

EH:
I was more referring to Virginia Quell.

[No response from Box.]

EH:
I think there’s a lot of questions floating in the ether right now considering what we saw in Dan Ryan’s video tape. Care to elaborate?

Box:
You want me to elaborate? I cut that weak little harlot lose the same way I cut you off ye’ blood bastard. If it isn’t completely clear to the lot of ye’ I’m not exactly the friend having type. I bloody USE people, Evan. I use them to get where want and if they stop being useful I wad them up like a used tissue and toss them in the bin. Virginia Quell helped me when I was a weak lad first setting foot in the big city. She was a manipulative little tramp that played me and I ended up in prison. She was naive enough to think she could manipulate me again. If Dan Ryan hadn’t crippled the little bitch I might have myself eventually.

That a good enough answer for ye’ lad?

EH:
So Ryan’s little video had no effect at all? You’re heads still in the game? Between Ryan’s mind games and Eugene Dewey with his sights set on the FIST some might say you’re…

Box:
What? What am I Evan? Because from where I sit I’m the fightingest champion this company’s got. Kai Scott surrounds himself with sycophantic yes men and barely defends that prize he’s found himself with. I’ve bled more for this company since we lost the ESEN deal than ANYONE on this roster…

EH:
Save for maybe Dan and Eugene.

Box:
God you think you’re cute, don’t you? Dan Ryan is a slug attempting to rebuild his ridiculous reputation on the back of MY hard work. Like a copycat serial killer following in my bloody footsteps. And Eugene Dewey…

EH:
Has a handful of significant wins over you and has since then gotten into the best shape of his life both mentally and physically.

Box:
So he has my number then, eh? Let me tell you something, I’m not some mincing little twat like Scott. I’ll tell you straight to your face, to Ryan’s face, to Eugene’s face I’ll cheat, I’ll maim, I’ll cut corners, I’ll end bloody careers. I don’t give a DAMN! Do you understand me? I’m not here to be some beacon of professionalism, I’m here to bloody HURT PEOPLE! Hurt people and carve my name into the history books as the greatest villain the sport has ever seen. The Blood Diamonds will sit atop the hill just as Team Danger does as the GREATEST professional wrestling has ever witnessed lace up and put boot to skull… so little Eugene can puff out his little chest and preen about with his shiny new set of friends all he wants...

Because at the end of the day I’m going to end Eugene Dewey’s pathetic little career when we come face to face in Germany in the nights TRUE main event.

Amen.

TALKING DEF

"Wrestling's a cutthroat world. Every time a faction makes room for somebody new, they're giving themselves that much less room to succeed. If you're not good enough to beat 'em you can't join 'em. But I refuse to believe you didn't already know that."
