A Special Interview w/ Dusty Griffith & Eugene Dewey

Posted by Lance Warner on 28 Mar 2015

Lance Warner sits down with the DEFIANCE World Heavyweight Champion, Dusty Griffith and the FIST of DEFIANCE, Eugene Dewey for a special interview before they clash in a winner takes all main event at AFTERSHOCK: The Revival.

Lance Warner:
Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for joining us for this DEFIANCEwrestling.com exclusive interview. I’m joined here today by the FIST of DEFIANCE, Eugene Dewey.

[Cut to Eugene sat in a chair wearing a slightly different than normal Thor t-shirt. He’s got his FIST of DEFIANCE title belt draped over his shoulder and leans back in his chair looking pretty relaxed.]

Lance Warner:
And but the DEFIANCE World Champion, Dusty Griffith.

[Dusty is set back in his seat, wearing a Black Label Society “Crazy Horse Tribe” tee shirt and blue jeans, with the DEFIANCE World Heavyweight Championship is rested in his lap. His long, dark hair is pulled into Viking style braids.]

Lance Warner:
As I’m sure many of you are aware, Kelly Evans dropped an absolute bombshell on DEFIANCE at the end of TV47 when she revealed that these two men would square off against each other in the main event of the upcoming pay per view, Aftershock: The Revival. Gentlemen, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the match, but first let’s remind ourselves of Kelly’s long awaited announcement.

[Dusty and Eugene turn the heads to the monitor, showing them their wide eyed expressions at DEFtv #47 when Kelly Evans announced they would be going one on one, winner takes all. As the clip comes to a close, Warner addresses the World Champion first, who begins to speak.]

Dusty Griffith:
Up until Evans addressed Euge and I, it was all a blur, brother. By that point, I half expected what she was going to do, but in that moment I was shocked when I heard the words. On the outside, I was stunned, but on the inside? I’ve been around long enough to know she needed something big to main event her first shot at pay per view, and what’s bigger than the two most dominant champions in the sport going head to head? That’s straight out of the Eric Dane playbook.

As for the match itself? After all of this time, be it Kai Scott, Eric Dane, or Dan Ryan, hell, even Edward White, brother. After all of this time, having to deal with those guys? To finally be able to climb into a twenty by twenty and actually have an opponent who was there to fight with everything he’s got, no nonsense, just a pure will to see who’s the best? It’s the kind of fight that I live for, and the fact that it’s Euge, my brother in arms? It’s going to be something special.

[Lance Warner nods and turns to Eugene, opening the floor for the FIST to speak.]

Eugene Dewey:
I couldn’t quite believe it at first. I mean, here I am coming down to help Dusty fight off Team HOSS one minute, then the next Kelly Evans is telling us we’re gonna be going head to head, and with both of our titles on the line.

Now It’s had a chance to sink in though I’ve gotta say I’m looking forward to it. We’ve had some pretty big matches in this company, but this could well be the biggest match in DEFIANCE history. Champion versus Champion is always a spectacle to behold, but when you’ve got two guys that are on top of their games like Dusty and I are, it’s inevitable that it’ll be something extra special.

I know if I was a DEFIAFAN I wouldn’t want to miss it, so I’m determined to give them something they can’t miss.

[Shuffling his notes, Warner moves on to the next topic.]

Lance Warner:
The two of you have become and been good friends for a while now, fighting side by side against the worst of the worst who stood against DEFIANCE. Now you’re being set against each other for the first time, what are you thoughts of the man who will stand across from you at Aftershock?

[Warner directs to Eugene to begin on this round.]

Eugene Dewey:
Dusty isn’t just my colleague, he’s my friend. We’ve stood side by side for so long now that I don’t think you can describe our relationship in any other way.

People have drawn comparisons between Dusty and my ring styles, and I’ll admit, it’s no coincidence we uses many of the same moves. I’ve spent so long studying Dusty and watching his matches, I don’t think I’ve ever missed one of his DEFIANCE matches since he came back, and I’ve learned so much from him. The psychology, the movements, the no wasted motion, I’ve picked up so much from him and that’s part of the reason I’ve remained the FIST for so long, because I’m always developing and always improving.

We’ll be travelling together or hanging out backstage and he’s always there with advice for me, telling me what I did right in a match and what I did wrong. He’s helped me grow  so much over the last couple of years and for that I thank him.

[Dusty nods his acknowledgement to Eugene’s thanks and then begins.]

Dusty Griffith:
First, you’re welcome, brother. You’re one of the few people in this sport who I truly admire, because, as you say, we’re a lot a like. The roads we’ve taken, the journey to get here may be wildly different, but the destination we landed in is the same. I’m proud to call you my friend, and if you’ve learned from me, I’m glad to have been a part of your evolution.

Because Euge is the kind of man I want to fight... What’s it been, four hundred days and change as the FIST? I’d say this man here, my friend, my brother, is the only one who stands out, as truly earning this match. He earned it by by fighting the best, and by beating the best. No games, no lies, he gave it his all and became the champion that we know today.

And why? For what? He didn’t game the system, because he didn’t have to, and didn’t want to. He, like me, chose the road that’s as long, as it is difficult. For fighters, wrestlers, champions, whatever you want to call us, none of this really matters if you can’t look yourself in the mirror and know you did it the right way. It has to mean something, something pure, honorable.

[Eugene nods in agreement along with Warner, who shuffles his notes again.]

Lance Warner:
Alright, gentlemen. Any last words for your opponent before Aftershock?

[Eugene cuts in immediately.]

Eugene Dewey:
Yeah, I do. And that’s to say I’m sorry.

[Dusty’s brow arches.]

Eugene Dewey:
I’m sorry, Dusty, because all those conversations are gonna come back around to bite you on the ass. Because at Aftershock, the student is going to finally surpass the master and I will walk out with both the FIST of DEFIANCE and the DEFIANCE World title.

[Dusty snorts and thumbs his nose.]

Dusty Griffith:
That’s all well and good, but let me tell you something, brother. Because you’re going to learn a harsh lesson in reality at Aftershock. See, you’ve fought everyone from Bronson Box to Jonny Booya, Dan Ryan to Curtis Penn, and so on, but none of them are me.

[Dusty grabs the title from his lap and sets it aside as he leans in a little.]

Dusty Griffith:
While they tried everything to keep you from being your best, manipulation, violence, whatever it was going to take… The thing is, Euge, I’ve never needed to do any of that, and when Aftershock comes and goes, you’ll know exactly why I’ve never needed to.

[Euge’s face turns a little sour as he stands up and fires back.]

Eugene Dewey:
Yeah? Well, at least I actually beat Dan Ryan, Bronson Box, Jonny Booya, AND Curtis Penn… Unlike you!

[Dusty’s jaw clenches, he gets up, grabbing his belt.]

Dusty Griffith:
And I’m telling you right now, little brother, this story of yours? It ends at Aftershock, not because I want the FIST of DEFIANCE. [shakes his head no] It’s because I’m tired of this notion that [points at the FIST of DEFIANCE title belt on Euge’s shoulder] that belt could ever be the same as this [he says as he holds up the DEFIANCE World Title].

[Eugene’s eyes go wide, his face turning more sour as he stares at Dusty, who turns to Warner.]

Dusty Griffith:
There’s your goddamned soundbite, Warner. [Turns back to Eugene] I’ll see you at Aftershock.

[Dusty walks off, Euge huffs and heads off in the opposite.]

[End.]
