An Interview With A Dewey

Posted by Lance Warner on 1 Oct 2012

I had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Eugene Dewey.

Check it out.

Hello DEFFans, Lance Warner here with yet another exclusive interview just for you guys.

As I hope you’ll all agree, Defiance’s last outing was an absolute barn burner. The first and seconds rounds of the Masters of Wrestling tournament playoffs are in the bag and we have our final four all lined up.

But the night wasn’t smiles and triumphs for everyone involved. Because while four competitors left The Big Easy with their hands held high, eight men walked out of the arena with their heads in their hands and their dreams in pieces.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have been granted an interview with one of those unlucky competitors, and I’m sat opposite him right now. At least I think, I barely recognise him in this state.

His eyes are surrounded with a deep purple bruise, and the unhealed cuts on his forehead appear all the more red when compared to his pasty white skin. His breathing isn’t laboured, but there’s a definite squeak whenever he inhales through his nostrils. In fact, the only reason I know I’m sat looking at Eugene Dewey is the ginger jewfro on his head.

Lance Warner:
Hi Eugene, let me just start by thanking you for granting this interview.

Eugene Dewey:
That’s Ok, Lance. I wanted to do this last week, but this is the first time since the last show that I’ve really felt like I could do anything, you know?

LW:
I can imagine, how’s the nose doing?

ED:
It’s healing. I didn’t want to go to the hospital again, so I’ve tried to mend it at home by googling some methods. I’m not sure I’ve done it right though. Can you hear this?

Eugene inhales deeply and, as I most certainly can hear, his nose squeaks ridiculously loudly.

ED:
Hear that?

LW:
Yeah, it kinda sounds like Lebron James is running around in your head.

ED:
Yeah, a bit.

LW:
How are you feeling besides the nose then?

ED:
I’ve been better. I’m still aching, but then this league has seriously been grueling over the last year, so maybe that’s as expected.

LW:
And mentally? How are you holding up after being eliminated from the tournament?

ED:
It sucks, man. It sucks hard. I mean, I spent a year fighting to get that spot, and in a few minutes it was all snatched away. Makes it all feel a little bit like wasted time, you know? Like I could have spent that time doing something else.

LW:
So do you regret putting your name in for the tournament now?

ED:
Oh, no way. I mean, sure there were ups and downs, highs and lows, but I’ve learned so much over the last year.

LW:
So we’re going to be seeing you in DEF 3.0?

ED:
For sure. Although you might not be seeing the same Eugene Dewey as you saw in this league.

LW:
I’m not sure I follow.

ED:
Well I’ve watched the match every day over the last week, and I just can’t believe what I’’m seeing.

LW:
In what sense?

ED:
Well, you know when Box ripped my shirt off? I see that in the mirror everyday and never think twice about it. But when you see it on video, next to a man the size and shape of Bronson Box... well, it’s kind of sickening.

LW:
So what are you saying?

ED:
I’m saying you’re going to see an improved Eugene Dewey in 3.0, that’s what.

LW:
Care to give us any details?

ED:
No, not right now. You’ll just have to wait and find out.

LW:
Any chance of us finding out at the finals?

ED:
There’s a chance, Lance. I don’t think I’ll be cleared to compete, but I’ll be in the building to watch as hopefully Christian or Claira claim the Masters of Wrestling title.

So there you have it, folks. Eugene Dewey still seems upbeat despite his loss to Bronson Box in the first round of the playoffs and is looking forward to the relaunch following the finals.

As a journalist it’s my job to report the facts and not to speculate wildly, but I have a hard time believing everything Eugene said while I was talking to him.

While he sounded cheerful, at times it all sounded very forced. While I can’t claim to know what was going on in the man’s head, I have a keen eye for body language, and Eugene never once seemed truly happy while he was talking to me.

Whatever is going through his head, I am confident of one thing. Eugene Dewey will be back.

For Defiancewrestling.com this is Lance Warner.
