Featuring: Samuel Tiberius Turner the Second
Date: 05/03/2013
Location: Bloody Harlan
[It was a clear dark night, bright white moon lighting up the outside. Sam Jr. sits in the loft of the barn where he stays during to summer nights.]
[His mind was racing as he tried to think of a way to save his family’s farm. He walks over to his makeshift bed and tries to crawl underneath it a foot or so. He's looking for his lockbox which is where he keeps his leftover money that he attempts to save.]
[He doesn't trust banks and now with good reason. They only try to take more than needed and don't want to help out the little man is a bad situation. Their main goal is being money hungry.]
[He pulls out his lockbox, it was an old metal ammunition case, it was rusty and in spots the greenish military paint was faded. He opened the box and started pulling wadded up rolls on dollar bills.]
[He begins to unroll all his saved up money and stack it up.]
"I gots ta have en'uff here ta help maw an paw. I jus gotta." He said under his breath.
[He begins to count out the money hoping he can get close to helping them out in the long run.]
"Five huner'd!"
[He continues.]
"One tho'san!"
[He lays the thousand dollar stack to the side and grabs another handful.]
['I'mma gettin closer.' He thinks to himself with a hint of excitement.]
"One tho'san six huner'd twenty-one!"
[He lays down the $621 dollars and grabs yet another stack. As he picks it up he realizes that there’s only one kindly small stack remaining and his heart begins to sink further into his chest.]
"Two tho'san, one huner'd eight!"
[He puts a rubber band around each stack of thousand dollar bills and lays the $108 dollars to the side.]
[He gets the last and final stack off the wooden barn floor and begins to count it slowly (yes, slower than normal).]
[He counts the first two and their hundred dollar bills. He continues and finds a couple more hundreds. His emotions are on high as he feel like his heart is being lifted from a bottomless pit as every hundred goes through his fingers.]
"Two tho'san, eight huner'd twelve! 'Ats it but it ain't en'uff"
[He grabs all the money up and heads down the loft ladder so he can surprise Sam Sr. and Susan. He hits the ground running and goes straight to the main house. He opened the front door and didn't see a soul.]
"Maw, paw where are y'all?" He bellowed as he entered the house.
[Susan comes out of her bedroom with a load of clothes to be washed.]
"What is it Junior?" Susan asked softly as she tried to hide her red puffy eyes by turning away from Sam Jr.
"Where's paw?" Sam ask as he was still breathing heavily.
[As normal, Sam Sr. was in the washroom getting rid of the spicy eggs and sausage he ate for breakfast.]
"Gimme a minute an I'll be in 'ere." Sam Sr. yelled from the pot.
[Susan sat down at the table after getting her laundry started. Sam Jr. grabbed a glass from the cabinet, filled it with ice and got water out of the faucet while they waited.]
[Sam Sr. came in the kitchen hitching his overalls back together. He sits down at the table beside Susan. Sam Jr. finishes his water and sits down on the other side of his mom.]
"What is it Junior?" Sam Sr. asked.
[Sam Jr. reached into his pocket and pulled out all the money he'd just counted out. He lays it all on the table.]
"'Ats all I don saved up an I want'cha ta help use it fer tha farm." Sam Jr. replied with a huge smile on his face.
"Junior, 'ats nice an all but we cain't take all ya money. 'Is is s'posed ta help ya lat'r in life." Susan responded.
"How much is it?" Sam Sr. asked.
"Two tho'san eight huner'd twelve dollars. It's all I don saved up." Sam Jr. boasted.
[Sam Sr. and Susan just looked at each other in awe. If they don't take it then they'll be right where they are now. If they do take it then Sam Jr. won’t have anything saved up for the future.]
"We cain't Junior, it jus ain't right." Susan said sadly.
[Sam Jr. shook his head no.]
"Y'alls takin it an 'ats all 'ey is ta it. I'm gonna save 'is farm. I'mma get 'at So'th'rn Her'tige title from Chance an get 'at bigger payoff an I'm savin 'is farm if'n its tha last thang I do." Sam Jr. said forcefully.
[Sam Jr. got up from the table and left out the front door leaving his parents looking at the money.]
"'Em boys bes be ready fer me. I ain't playin wiff 'em boy na more. I gots ta give it ma all an not let 'em boys get tha bes of me. I owes it ta ma maw an paw. I WILL be a champ'in in Def'ance an it'll be soon'r 'an y'all thank." Sam Jr. said trying to hype himself up as he headed back to the barn to begin his workouts.
[The future of Turner Manor will be told in just a few days. Maybe Sam Jr. can do it. His family’s home is at stake.]
