Title: A Moral Majority Vignette
Featuring: Bronson Box
Date: 6/22/13
Location: Santa Barbara, California

[Cold open, the former DEFIANCE World champion Bronson Box bathed in the warm California sun. Dressed down in a pair of dark charcoal slacks and a black polo shirt he’d looks almost human if it weren't for his turn of the century facial hair and his tiny Laurence Fishburne style sunglasses. As we pan back we see we find the Wargod on a sunny Santa Barbara pier amongst endless rows of gorgeous luxury sea craft. Boats big and small line the oiled wood docks as far as the eye can see.]

[From stage left comes Frank Dylan James dressed in dark starched jeans, an old pearl snap shirt and a pair of roach kicker style cowboy boots. Beside him the beautiful red haired Virginia Quell dressed all in green, a short dress with big round sunglasses.]

Virginia:
Why are we doing this again, love?

[Before Bronson can answer... ]

Frank:
‘Cause ol' Ed tol’im to start spendin’ some of his damn money. Don’t right know why it’s gotta’ be a gal’damn boat. Mah’ pappy always said if man were meant to be on the ocean he’d uh made us able ter’ float.

[Gin starts to correct The Mastodon but Boxer shakes his head slightly.]

Bronson:
I was indeed told by my financially pungent tag team partner to purchase something “fun for myself”... rich people buy boats, don’t they?

[Gin sidles up to Bronson and lays her head on his shoulder.]

Virginia: [quietly]
Hard to believe we’re here, Hollis. We’ve come quite a long ways from...

[Bronson shoulders his companion away.]

Bronson:
I’VE come a long way. I DECIDED you could come along, dear. You’ve yet to prove anything in the ring, Gin dear. When you've actually won a match or dominated an opponent, then and only then can you take credit for a blood THING this group has accomplished.

[Dejected, hurt, and down right pissed off Gin silently sulks away back to street level leaving Bronson and Frank alone on the pier.]

[Long silence.]

Frank:
Why’d you start ‘tis here group anyway, Boxer? You sure ‘aint one fer’ company. I mean... what’sa deal with you two?

Bronson:
Long complicated story that landed me in prison. You know that.

Frank:
Her fault, right?

Bronson:
Indeed.

Frank:
Then why bring’er here? Why train her up like you done?

[Boxer looks out over the water.]

Bronson:
Because everything happens for a reason, Francis. Everything. Good, bad and indifferent. Where I am, WHO I am, what I believe are all thanks to the path I’ve tread. I’d not change a thing. As misguided as they were her actions and the legal repercussions against me years ago made me the man I am today. Feared. A monster among men. The Original Defiant. If not for her I honestly don’t know where I’d be. She’s also ruthless... a trait I value.

[A moment of silence between the two wrestlers. Frank just shakes his head.]

Frank:
Ah really do hate you people, you know that? Crazy ass sons’a bitches were made fer’ each other.

[Boxer just smiles, unfazed.]

Bronson:
I know Frank. You just keep followin’ orders or I make that one phone call to Edward and you know who and your you know what go up in financial smoke, understood? You stay sober, you stay vicious, and you stay loyal and everyone will be happy as clams, boy'o.

[Bronson pats Frank Dylan James on the shoulder with a smile and walks off towards street level to patch things up with his still fuming Red Queen. Usually pretty hard to read, Frank gets an obvious look of anger mixed with dejected acceptance on his bearded face.]

Frank: [to himself]
Yeah... happy as a damn clam.

[Up on the street Gin is sitting on a bus bench fiddling with her purse, face still flushed with anger. Boxer casually sidles up and plops down on the seat next to her.]

Bronson:
Goin’ somewhere, lass?

Virginia: [pouting]
Perhaps.

[Silence]

Bronson:
I’m just keepin’ yer’ ego in check, girl. That’s all.

Virginia:
Oh do fuck off, Hollis.

[Boxer puts his arm around Virginia, squeezing her should REALLY tight and pulling her in close. She struggles against his grip to little effect. He slowly takes off his sunglasses with his free hand and tucks them into his shirt front.]

Bronson: [leaning in close]
I brought you here out of a sense of loyalty. There was a point in my life I was lost, alone, homeless, poor... you took care of me. But you also used me, Virginia. You’re a greedy underhanded little witch and you used the good will you fed me to in turn use me to fleece people, line your bloody pockets.

Virginia:
Like you didn’t love every bloody sec...

[Squeezing her shoulder a little tighter Gin stops mid scentence and winces.]

Bronson: [teeth clenched]
There were nights in prison I DREAMED about my hands wrapped around your pretty little throat, girl. Alone, scared, the screams and shouts of murderers and rapists my lullaby each and every night. I dreamed of your lifeless body atop all your riches, pale, unmoving.

[Gin is quiet now.]

Bronson:
But time heals all wounds. When I walked out of that prison the man I am today, eventually started my career here in DEFIANCE I realized I owed you a great debt. It showed me great change can come from chaos. It showed me even the most vile of deeds can lead to greatness. Virginia dear, you made Bronson Box almost as much as I did. For that? I am eternally grateful.

[Gin softens, she places a hand on Boxer’s chest with a smile. She leans in for a kiss.]

Bronson:
Just know that should you ever cross me? It’ll be the last thing you ever do, lass. I'll cut you down without hesitation. Just ask Evan how that little game works.

[Bronson gets up from the bench before Gin can plant one. She sits for a moment and watches Bronson walk away and meet Frank just coming up from the pier.]

Virginia: [to herself]
Cross you, Hollis? I’d never dream of such a thing...

[Getting up from the bench Virginia hurry’s after her stalemates.]

[The trio disappear into the crowded southern California street.]

[End.]
