Wednesday, July  31st, local hero of wrestler and former standout football player at James A. Cawood High School, Sam Turner Jr. visited with current players and staff at Harlan Co. High School to talk about bullying. As a country boy Turner knows all about being bullied. He was bullied by some of the preppier guys who lived "very high on the hog," as quoted by Turner.

 

The players sat and listened to Turner as he went in depth with his anti-bullying campaign.

 

"It was hard gonin ta school at times. I ain't like 'em boys makin fun of tha way I talked. 'Ey used ta tease hide ma clothes atter gum class so I had ta wear ma gym clothes tha rest of tha day. 'Ey called tha slack jawed yokel, which prolly wasn't a stretch but ya know. 'Ey even wen as far as ta foller me home an call me names like retard, moron, an a few udder var'us names." Turner went on to say. "When I got on tha football team ma nickname was tha Waterboy. I's perty sure ya can guess why."

 

Turner told more stories about his bullying and then told the young men how he coped with the anger.

 

"I used ta get so mad 'at 'em guys 'at it felt like ma head was gunna explode. So I took out all ma anger out on tha field. I plowed down many a bigger men 'an me. Now I did do some bullyin on tha field but mos pe'ple jus say 'ats part of tha game." Turner continued. "Atter football I was kinda lost. I ain't have nuttin ta take ma anger out on so I started rasslin wiff tha hogs. Ev'ntually I started rasslin fellas an I liked tha comp'tition 'at it was all bout."

 

As he went on talking about the wrestling business and all the fun times he'd had, he couldn't help but go back to his football days.

 

"It was tha best time I er had in ma life. Don't let it jus go by one day at a time, enjoy it min'te by min'te. Its a hole lot more fun. Memr'es live on ferev'r an leave lastin impress'ns on erone."

 

The day ended with a scrimmage, Sam stood in as referee with the other coaches and watched all the pad popping hard hitting action.

Jus a few days away from ma win ag'inst Curt's Penn an Jamee Murray, an now Penn actu'ly does a promo. 'At's kindly odd if'n ya asks me, but it is what it is, nah meen.

 

Now 'at Penn decided he was in tha match, he wants ta blame me fer him not bein part of tha Good Fight an us not takin his help. Well guess what fella, er'thin 'at went on in tha Good Fight was Tom Sawyer's call. I ain't have narry a say in non of it. So if'n ya wants ta blame someone, blame Tom.

 

I rekon ya jus a lil jeal'us of what tha Good Fight stood fer an ya had ta have Burke an Windham on yer side an non of us. Ya had ta settle fer tha nuttins. Ya gots ta admit 'at right ere. So let it go fella.

 

Now ya partn'r on tha other hand, I rekon he won't show fer tha match. I hope Tuck'r ain't gunna show too, I'd rather win 'at match by ma self. I'd rather have at one on one match wiff Chance Von Crank.

 

An Curt's, me an Chance got a bad hist'ry an if'n ya don't keep ya mouth shut, me an you's gunna have a bad hist'ry goin on. I dunno what kinda thang dun crawled up ya rear, ya best have it checked out soon. I jus hope ya's ok atter I win 'is match. I'd hate fer ya ta reform tha Chimara FT any time soon, but its doubtful since ya leader, Park'r Smiff ain't round na'mo.
