The Last of Us (21)

After a few more turns, they finally arrived. Tyler waited at the doorway until his brother caught up. Once he did, Tyler motioned for Conor to read the door sign.

“ERIC DANE.”

It took Conor a minute (because he was so energetic) but once it hit him, he went wild with approval.

Tyler continued a death stare at Conor, making sure he knew to “calm down” before Player One raised his hand and knocked on the door.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

There was a long delay. Tyler looked back at Conor, whom popped his eyebrows and happily jumped up and down, while keeping at quiet as possible. The door opened.

“Hi. Tyler, Conor,” The man started. “Come on in.”

Tyler was about to enter the door first but Conor burst in with way too much energy. Then, upon realizing his mistake he rushed himself back out the doorway and awaited Tyler to move forward.

“Sorry, sorry. Player One goes first.”

Tyler looked at the man who opened the door and blushed with embarrassment. He had an expression like “my brother is an idiot, I’m sorry”. Then, Tyler stepped into the room and Conor followed with a giggle. Breaking video game rules was funny to him sometimes, even though it really had no place here.

“I’m Bryan. Bryan Sterritt.” The man said, greeting Tyler first appropriately and then Conor with some reluctance.

“Nice to meet you, Mr. Sterritt.” Tyler said, looking around the office. “I take it Mr. Dane is coming?”

Bryan patiently shook his head. “No I’m afraid Mr. Dane couldn’t make it. This… this isn’t really his style.”

Conor almost cut Bryan off. “What do you mean not his style?” He was clearly still full of too much energy.

“Oh,” Bryan followed up. “He doesn’t like meeting newcomers and he’s heard you guys are a little… um… weird.”

Conor took offense to that comment. His eyes grew dark and he waited for Tyler to reply.
