DEFLIVE001 - Shreveport, Louisiana; Captain Shreve High School
DEFIANCE Wrestling hit the road for the first time in a long time tonight bringing their unique brand of hard-hitting professional wrestling to “The Swamp” aka Captain Shreve High School in Shreveport, Louisiana for DEFLIVE001!
Returning to the world of DEFIANCE after a year-long layoff, “The Anti-Superstar” Jason Natas squared off with Harmony, looking to pick up steam heading into her match at Ascension for the Southern Heritage Championship.
A solid back and forth affair to open the show with Jason Natas trying to use his size advantage to overpower the smaller Harmony. Natas seemed to be in control and heading for the pay window until Harmony countered a splash in the corner, slipping between the ropes to avoid the big man, and hitting him as he stumbled out with a version of a middle-rope springboard lungblower! With Natas halted, Harmony went to work on his surgically repaired knee. Natas gained the upper hand again landing a big elbow out of the corner to stun Harmony, only to miss an ill-timed spinning backfist that was countered with a basement dropkick to the knee and quickly followed up by the application of The Fermata! Jason Natas wasted no time and surrendered, obviously still a bit skittish after the injury. Harmony raised her hands high in victory, getting this night kicked off with a high energy win.
Up next, The Gentleman’s Agreement led by Lord Sewell took control of the ring and the microphone, proceeding to run down the blue-collar fans. Mid-tirade, the lights went out and strobe lights accompanied by blue and purple lasers lit up the entrance curtain. From a thick cloud of smoke emerged the Man Outside of Time Itself, Henry Keyes.
Keyes entered the ring and immediately shut Lord Sewell’s running mouth with a hard slap. With the referee’s attention diverted clearing the ring of the Gentleman's Agreement, the match got underway quickly with Sewell landing a sharp upward forearm below the belt of Keyes. Using his superior ring awareness, the Brit grappler ground Henry Keyes, and the pace of the match, to a standstill.
Rallying the crowd behind him, Henry Keyes fought back, eventually freeing himself from Sewell’s grasp and launching into a big string of offensive maneuvers to set up for the Bell Clap. As Keyes prepared to deliver his patented finishing maneuver, Oliver Tarquin Monroe climbed to the ring apron to distract him. Grabbing Monroe firmly by the collar, Keyes looked ready to deliver some old-time justice when Sewell charged, only for Keyes to sidestep and send the members of the Gentleman’s Agreement crashing into one another! Sewell stumbled out of the collision and, with the crowd chanting it’s name, Henry Keyes delivered a thunderous Bell Clap, immediately knocking Lord Sewell unconscious and covered for an effortless three count.
Next up was one of two Main Events as the Angel City eXXXpress, represented by “Dapper” Don Hollywood and the incredible physical specimen Flex Kruger, faced off against the fan favorites of Dusty Griffith and Andy Sharp. The ACX wasted no time in drawing the ire of the fans as Flex Kruger took to the center of the ring and began posing, showing off his impressive physique, whilst Don Hollywood vigorously sprayed him down with oil. Dusty Griffith and Andy Sharp looked on, bewildered, until the loud jeering from the fans pushed them into action.
The big man from Boise stepped forward to face Flex and began breaking out some poses of his own, most in a mocking fashion. Taking offense, Don Hollywood shoved Griffith back, only to be thrown across the ring! Griffith roared with a flex at Hollywood, but was attacked from behind by Krueger. The match officially underway, Griffith countered Krueger’s rudimentary punch/kick offense and took the momentum back after a wild shoulderblock that sent the young man to the floor.
Krueger returned to the ring and tagged in his mentor. Griffith happily obliged his partner and Andy Sharp came in to face the Dapper one. Sharp and Hollywood proceeded to put on a counter-wrestling clinic, neither giving the other an inch of space to gain an advantage. With his grappling matched and showing some frustration, Hollywood whipped Sharp into the ropes and then dove to the canvas holding his eye, drawing the referee’s attention and allowing Flex Krueger to pull the top rope down and send Andy Sharp tumbling hard to the arena floor! Dusty Griffith charged in protesting to the referee which allowed the miraculously recovered Hollywood to join Krueger at ringside in putting the boots to the downed Sharp.
Hollywood and Krueger took over from there, quickly tagging in and out to do damage to Sharp with DonHo calling the shots the entire time to his young partner. Sharp fought out but was cut off from reaching his partner several times until, on a rebound from the ropes, Sharp connected with a wild clothesline on Krueger that downed both men. As Sharp and Krueger stirred, Dusty Griffith pounded on the top turnbuckle, rallying the Shreveport crowd behind him, the energy pushing Sharp to stumble forward into a dive and tag the Wild Bronco of DEFIANCE into the match! Griffith entered the ring and immediately ran right through Flex Krueger with a clothesline! Don Hollywood tried to sneak in behind Griffith, only to get lifted high and slammed down hard with a monstrous gorilla press slam! Krueger climbed to his feet and was clotheslined over the top rope to the floor with Hollywood. Without missing a beat, Andy Sharp took to the air and laid both men out with a tope suicida!
Sharp rolled Hollywood back into the ring and into Griffith who, with the fans at a fever pitch, delivered an Atomic Powerbomb that DonHo won't soon forget. Griffith stepped out of the way just in time for his partner to fly through the air and crash down with the All-Star Frog Splash for the victory!
During the intermission, the shrill voice of DEFIANCE Television, Angus Skaaland himself, came out to a thunderous ovation that quickly went South when he unleashed the fully-loaded “tee shirt cannon of justice” on several unsuspecting audience members, a ticket taker, the employees of the concession stand and one window.
After some clean-up and a few complimentary sodas given out after Angus’ stunt, we were back underway with a DEFIANCE tryout match as “Maniac” Matt Floyd squared off with El Habañero of Chicago’s Red Line Wrestling. The two youngsters were anxious to show their stuff as they went right at it once the bell rang. After trading takedowns and reversals, Floyd gained control, catching El Habañero in mid-air with a brutal powerslam. El Habañero briefly turned the tides when he countered Floyd’s top rope double axe-handle with a well timed Koppu Kick, followed by a lightning quick ascent to the top rope and a beautiful senton splash. It wasn’t enough to put the “Maniac” away though, as El Habañero went to the top rope again only for Floyd to follow him up and bring him crashing back to Earth with a Belly to Belly Suplex for the win.
The Semifinal of the night saw the “Trailer Park Prodigy” Chance Von Crank do battle with the fourth generation luchador, Mascara de Muerte IV. A solid back and forth effort that saw cVc hit a low blow before even locking up! Instead of simply capitalizing on his downed opponent, the “ShockNRolla” made his way around ringside, taking the time to personally insult each and every fan in the front row, pausing only to return to the ring and hit another low blow to the luchadore! After a third lap around the ring, Von Crank found himself on the receiving end of the enraged Mascara de Muerte IV’s fury. Landing a flurry of forearms and punches, the luchadore seemed poised for a comeback, only to have it halted by yet another shot below the belt followed by the RazzleDazzler to a deafening chorus of boos from the crowd.
The eagerly anticipated Main Event was next to cap off the evening. Aleczander the Great and Capital Punishment, of Team HOSS, joined by Jonny Booya entered and immediately began antagonizing the crowd. Punishment immediately broke off at the entrance and tore through the crowd, forcing them to scatter, as Aleczander and Booya took over the ring, giving the fans their second posedown of the night.
The jeers nearly deafening as Punishment joined his partners in the ring, they quickly switched to a roar of cheers as the lights went down except for a few spotlights over the ring and the the reigning DEFIANCE Trios Champions Dan Ryan, Lindsay Troy and Tyrone Walker stormed from out of the darkness sending their opponents scattering to the floor. Highly energized, Walker, Troy and Ryan took to the corners and showed off the Trios Championships to the fans. Ty Walker threw his DEFIANCE baseball jersey into the crowd, making one lucky fan’s night.
Walker and Booya started off with Booya taking to the center of the ring, flexing his biceps and confidently screaming at Walker “You have half the muscles that I have and I have half the brain that you do!” The crowd, along with the Trios champs, burst out laughing, much to Jonny’s chagrin. Walker couldn’t compose himself, falling to his hands and knees and crawling to his corner, tagging in Lindsay Troy.
Troy entered and was met with more posing from Booya, this time with loud encouragement from Aleczander on the apron. Booya once again let his voice be heard, yelling out “You think I’m scared of you, bitch?!” Troy charged forward showing him that he should be. Connecting flush with a hard forearm shot that staggered Booya back, Troy followed with several rapid fire open palm strikes that forced Jonny into the corner. Troy dragged him out with an arm-wringer, pulling him to her corner and tagging in the “Ego Buster.” Ryan entered, landed a big double-axhehandle to Booya’s prone arm and took over with the arm-wringer. Booya fought out, pushing Ryan to the ropes and sending him off with an Irish Whip, only to get reversed and scooped up for a high military press slam! Booya rolled to his corner and tagged in the veteran member of his team, Capital Punishment.
Punishment and Ryan locked up in the center of the ring and fought for control, breaking at a stalemate. Punishment hit the ropes and came back with a hard clothesline, not budging an inch. Ryan challenged him to try it again. Punishment, eager to show his superior strength, obliged charging with a clothesline, Ryan ducked under and, on the rebound from the opposite side, planted Punishment with a big spinebuster! After an unsuccessful pinfall attempt, Ryan tagged Tyrone Walker into the action.
Walker was quick into the fray, diving onto Punishment and locking in a headlock. Punishment tried several times to roll Walker to his shoulders for a pin before fighting his way to his feet and shooting Walker into the ropes. Walker, wily veteran himself, ducked under a Punishment clothesline, stopped dead in his tracks and jumped backwards, cracking Capital Punishment with a whirlybird enzuiguri!
Seeing him reeling, Walker dove toward Punishment and downed him with a low ankle pick takedown which he transitioned into a standing ankle lock. Rallying the crowd behind him, Walker turned the ankle lock into a spinning toehold! Repeatedly spinning and wrenching Punishment’s knee, Walker was only stopped by an expertly placed thumb to the eye. Stumbling away, Walker was then blasted with a big boot from Aleczander!
Punishment, Aleczander and Booya, finally in control, wasted no time in putting a serious beating on Walker in their corner. Tagging in and out, the three took turns stomping and punching the downed champion, antagonizing Ryan and Troy and distracting the referee to allow the other two to continue the assault from the outside. The referee was doing all he could to keep Troy and Ryan from entering the ring until, in a moment of brilliance or desperation, possibly both, Tyrone Walker broke free from the assault and rolled to the arena floor, a legal “tag” in DEFIANCE Trios action.
That was when all hell broke loose. Seeing the situation, Dan Ryan and Lindsay Troy BOTH entered the ring simultaneously and met Aleczander and Punishment in the center of the ring in an enormous collision of fists and fury! Ryan paired off with Aleczander, sending him over the top rope with a big clothesline! Troy and Punishment traded wild punches, resembling more of a hockey fight than anything else, while Booya made his way back in to help his partner.
The two-on-one was short lived though as Tyrone Walker returned to the ring and sent Booya back to the floor with a big clothesline, sending him crashing into Aleczander and Dan Ryan! Without hesitation, Walker sprang to the top rope and took out everyone with a tope con hilo!
On the outside, Dan Ryan brought the fans to a fever pitch as he dragged Jonny Booya to the merchandise area and absolutely destroyed him with a Humility Bomb through the tee shirt table!
Once again isolated in the ring, Capital Punishment and Lindsay Troy resumed their wild slugfest, battling back and forth from corner to corner. Punishment took control, whipped Troy into the corner and followed in with a big avalanche splash, only Troy moved out of the way! Punishment staggered to the center of the ring and right into the “Queen’s” clutches as she tied him up with the Divine Right! With no one to save him, Capital Punishment tapped out!
The heroes victorious, they stood tall in the center of the ring, hoisting the Trios titles high as the fans rushed forward to celebrate, bringing the night to a close.
