Title: bff
Featuring: Tres Brujas
Date: 6/6/13
Location: some gym

One otherwise remarkable morning, Claira St. Sure woke up, fixed her usual breakfast of oatmeal and almonds, and then headed straight for the gym.  Once she got there, she paced along the edge of the ring apron, put one leg over the middle rope, put it back down, and then sat on the apron.

Diane had finished her own breakfast, loaded the dishwasher, and straightened up a few random things around the apartment before following her, assuming Claira would have done a couple hundred hindu squats already.

She hadn’t.

Diane asked if everything was alright.

Turns out it wasn’t.

“Is it really worth it?”

Claira was looking at her hands.

“I mean, I been wrestling 6 years now.  It didn’t take Heidi this long to win a World Title and she won hers back during the interfed days.  I try to do my job you know, wrestle my best every match try to win, be a good sportsman, talk nice to the fans for publicity, and Eric Dane don’t care one way or another about me.  If I quit Defiance today, he only care because trios teams are hard to find.”

Diane sat down next to Claira on the ring apron.

“You don’t lose often enough, that’s your problem.  Normal wrestlers just shrug it off and move on to the next match.  If you even bother watching to see what you did wrong, you’re better than most, and if you can learn well enough to fix your mistakes you’re goddamn elite.  Also, we now know that men who’re 300 pounds of muscle are strong enough to break the Truly Untouchabreaker, so, if you ever get a rematch with him, use the busaiku knee or just backfist him a couple dozen times.”

“I guess.”  Claira nodded.  “It be depressing though, you know?”

The gym doors slammed open and shut, and Lisa Loeh walked in looking downright cheerful.

This was usually a bad sign.  The kinds of things that made Lisa cheerful tended to be the kinds of things that made other people miserable.

“We’re wrestling the Philosopher Kings!” she shouted, half skipping towards them, then hopping up on the ring apron to sit next to Claira.  “The Philsopher Kinnnngggsss.”

Claira shrugged.  “And?”

Lisa leaned forward, looking past Claira to smirk at Diane.  “Eddie Dante, Mushigihara, and Troy Matthews!  We’re gonna wrestle your ex-boyfriend’s bee-eff-eff!”

“Don’t make this a big deal, Lisa.” Diane sounded weary.  “Troy and I haven’t talked since he found out I joined the Truly Untouchables.”

“Oh really?”  Lisa’s eyebrows went up.  “And what did he say?”

Diane considered asking Lisa to shut up, but decided there was no point in doing so.  “He yelled at me for like ten minutes.  Asked me if I was crazy.  Gave me a point by point recap of everything Kai Scott had done wrong since the year 2002.  I told him how Kai said he was reforming, he said not to believe it.  I said how he hadn’t done anything wrong in II, he said he was just planning things.  Then I told him my wrestling career was going nowhere and I was tired of wrestling in front of fifty people for a couple hundred dollars at best, and what’s the worst that could happen? Then he was like ‘alright be careful’.  We kind of quit talking.  Not deliberately or anything, but when he was teaming with Jack I went way out of my way to not go anywhere near them, and we just kind of lost touch.”

“Oh miGOD. DRAMA.” Lisa jumped off the ring apron and flounced off across the gym, made a production of doffing her white t-shirt and then plopped herself down in the pec deck.

“I can’t stand her.” Diane said angrily.  “Little attention whore discredits everything we work for.”

“Yeah I know, but do you know anyone else who will third us?”

“…No.”
